Walt Disney World is one of the most popular vacation destinations in the world, and there are many resorts to choose from when planning a trip to the theme park. One of the most iconic resorts at Walt Disney World is the Contemporary Resort, which opened in 1971 and has been a popular choice among guests ever since. Location:
One of the main advantages of staying at the Contemporary Resort is its location. The resort is situated right in the heart of Walt Disney World, just steps away from the Magic Kingdom. Guests can take a short walk to the park or ride the monorail, which runs through the resort’s main building. This convenience was a major selling point for my family because we like to avoid renting a car when we are in Florida. Also, we found that the buses at the value resorts (which are further away) can run slowly.
Design:
The Contemporary Resort is known for its striking architecture, which features a towering A-frame structure and sleek, modern lines. The resort has a distinct retro-futuristic feel. The main building is home to the resort’s restaurants, shops, and guest rooms, which offer stunning views of the park or the surrounding area. There are “garden” rooms that are not a part of the main building but just as close to the park. So if it doesn’t matter to you about staying in the A-frame building, grab a garden room (they are much cheaper!)
Accommodations:
The Contemporary Resort offers a range of accommodations to suit different budgets and needs. As mentioned previously, the most basic rooms are located in the Garden Wing, which is a separate building adjacent to the main tower. These rooms are spacious and comfortable but lack the views of the rooms in the main building. (except for the water light show, I talk about this more in my video review) Guests who want a more luxurious experience can choose from a variety of suites, which offer more space and upscale features like luxury bathrooms and private balconies.
Dining:
The Contemporary Resort is home to some great dining options at Walt Disney World. The California Grill, located on the top floor of the main building, offers spectacular views of the park and serves upscale cuisine with a focus on locally-sourced ingredients. The resort’s other restaurants include the family-friendly Chef Mickey’s, which features character dining, Steakhouse 71, and the Contempo Cafe (this is the grab-and-go spot). There is also a coffee shop in the lobby.
Amenities:
In addition to its prime location, the Contemporary Resort offers a range of amenities to keep guests entertained during their stay. The resort has a pool area, including a splash area for kids and a hot tub for adults. There’s also a fitness center, a game room, and a marina where guests can rent boats and other watercraft. In my opinion, the monorail in the building is the top amenity. The less I stand in Florida heat the better!
Overall, the Contemporary Resort is a good choice. It’s an unbeatable location. It is more expensive than some of the other resorts at Walt Disney World, so prepare yourself for the price tag. If staying here would limit what you can do on the rest of your trip stay somewhere else! But all in all the Contemporary Resort offers a unique experience that’s hard to beat.
